January Detox

In the month of January many people think of detoxing.  Optimising your body’s natural ability to cleanse itself reaps many benefits such as increased energy and stamina, better quality of sleep and reduced anxiety.  A natural approach to this as outlined here is safe and beneficial to for everyone, easy and economical to undertake.

Increase intake of seasonal fruit and veg

  • Fruits: kiwi, orange, tangerine, clementine, lemon, grapefruit, apple, pear, dried fruits (fig, plum, raisin, date, apricot, among others).
  • Cruciferous vegetables include broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, chard, turnips and watercress.

Cruciferous veggies grow in all different colours, shapes and sizes, so eat the rainbow and benefit from vitamins A & C, minerals such as folate and vitamin K and phytonutrients — plant-based compounds that may help to lower inflammation and reduce the risk of developing cancer. Rich in fibre and low in calories, these fruits and veggies will help you feel full and satisfied without overeating.  Fibre helps balance blood sugar, lower cholesterol, cleanse the body and reduces risk of diverticulitis.

Further basic natural cleansing practices ….

  • Drink 2 litres daily of filtered warm or ambient temperature water
  • Exclude all sugar, it does nothing positive for health
  • Reduce greatly alcohol, caffeine and processed foods
  • Keep warm and well hydrated in the cold weather
  • Go outside and get fresh air and exercise for at least 30 minutes daily
  • Bath in Epsom Salts; they relax muscles and promote sleep
  • Keep mobile phones and devices well away from you as you sleep; they interfere with the body’s electro-magnetic field.  Sleep is for regeneration.

January health awareness days include drugs and alcohol, glaucoma, thyroid and folate.  The recommendations above address important aspects of these issues.
